Training and Accreditation

Microgen provides public and dedicated customer and partner courses for Microgen Accounting Hub (MAH), Microgen Aptitude and feature specific Microgen Aptitude modules for business and technical users.

Due to the nature of Microgen Aptitude and the Microgen Accounting Hub, training courses are designed to address the increased involvement of business users, providing guidance on how to successfully design and manage the development of applications between the business and IT.

Microgen offers courses that meet the needs of several levels of user, and as a result, courses are organised in small classes and include a theoretical overview, hands-on workshops, case studies and accreditation exams.

Training Facility
Courses are designed for up to six people and may be delivered in Microgen’s training facility in Fleet or on location at the client’s offices.

Training Materials
All Microgen Aptitude course attendees will receive a course pack that includes training slides and other relevant course materials.

Accreditation
With the exception of the product overviews, all courses include written and practical examinations. Certain courses also provide product accreditation, which means that successful candidates are trained and appropriately equipped to develop or configure applications using Microgen Aptitude (and, where applicable, MAH) and allow the client to take advantage of the product maintenance and support provisions allowed for in their respective licence agreements with Microgen

At the Introductory level, a Management Overview is offered as a client-specific course for professionals involved with a Microgen Aptitude project who do not need to work with the software directly.

The Foundation level is for business analysts and general users, including IT professionals who design, model and maintain processes.  This level covers the basis of process development, the setup of external systems interfaces, as well as an introduction to all Microgen Aptitude modules.  There is a choice of two courses at this level; the three-day Studio Foundation and the five-day Microgen Aptitude Foundation for Application Developers. Delegates who successfully complete either of these foundation level courses are eligible to proceed to modules in the Development and Administration levels.

The Development level comprises four optional modules:

  • DBClarity is aimed at developing high performance in-database analytical applications.  This two-day course introduces the graphical interface that enables business users who may not be familiar with SQL, PL/SQL or Transact-SQL, to design and deploy complex database structures, SQL statements, and SQL procedures from within Microgen Aptitude and its embedded processes.
  • Web Forms and Workflow is focused on building and maintaining web forms using Microgen Aptitude’s Application Generator.  This five-day course includes instruction on the Workflow module to enable users to model and execute workflow processes that integrate with web applications.
  • BPD and SOA is designed for advanced users who model and execute business processes that interact with Aptitude Services and Web Services.  This two-day course is centered on two technologies, Service Oriented Architecture and Business Process Diagrams.
  • PerformancePLUS is a highly complex two-day course for advanced technical users to manage, configure, and optimise processing within Microgen Aptitude.

Successful completion of the Microgen Aptitude Foundation for Application Developers is a prerequisite for each of the optional modules.

  • The Administration level is aimed at system administrators and technical engineers who install, support, and maintain Microgen Aptitude.  It comprises a technical training track divided into two modules:
    • The three-day Studio Foundation is the entry-level course for the Administration level.  Delegates are taught about the basic elements required for simple processing and how to connect to external systems.
    • The two-day Technical Foundation covers basic installation, system architecture, security settings, back-up/failover provisioning, and other administration issues.
  • The Upgrade level is for accredited users in older versions of Microgen Aptitude.  As accreditation is version-specific, these courses allow users to learn about the usage and maintenance of new functionality.  Although custom courses can be made available to suit individual customer needs Microgen will restrict standard Release Update courses to product releases that add significant new functionality.
  • The Microgen Aptitude Advanced Module is designed for those individuals who have completed Microgen Aptitude for MAH, part of the Microgen Accounting Hub training, and who want to attend the advanced Microgen Aptitude development modules.

Microgen Aptitude Accreditation
Accreditation is granted to an individual, not to the organisation or client, for a particular version of the Microgen software product and at a particular level.

The following product specific accreditation levels are available:

  • Microgen Aptitude Application Developer’s Foundation

To achieve this level of accreditation users must successfully complete either the:

    • Microgen Aptitude for Application Developers (MA3-UD02) or
    • Microgen Aptitude for MAH (MA3-MAH01) and MAH Overview (MAH3-BM01) (See Microgen Accounting Hub Accreditation for more detail.)

  • Microgen Aptitude Administration

To achieve this level of accreditation users must successfully complete

    • Microgen Aptitude Studio Foundation (MA3-UD01) and Microgen Aptitude Technical Foundation (MA3-T01)

Microgen offers the following training courses for the Microgen Accounting Hub:

  • The MAH Overview provides an introduction to the Microgen Accounting Hub, with a high-level review of the Data Model, the Financial Data Repository, Standardisation, Accounting Engine, the Sub-Ledger, and the Reporting Data Repository. This one-day MAH Overview is aimed at both business finance personnel, who do not need to work with the software directly, and to functional and technical IT staff. The overview is recommended for all team members working on a MAH project, and any personnel wishing to gain an understanding of the overall solution.

Once users have successfully completed the MAH Overview and Microgen Aptitude for MAH courses they are eligible to attend the MAH Functional and MAH Technical courses.

  • Microgen Aptitude for MAH is a prerequisite for everyone attending the MAH for Functional and Technical Practitioners courses and is designed to introduce users to Microgen Aptitude and the Microgen DBClarity module.  Aimed at those working on a MAH project, the course introduces the Microgen Aptitude Studio and its components. Users learn to design and implement basic processing, including working with Rules and Microflows, how to connect to external systems and to read SQL rules written in DBClarity. The four-day course includes hands-on workshops and a written and practical exam.
  • MAH for Functional Practitioners is for subject matter experts, functional and technical practitioners, business analysts, and programmers. This two-day functional course provides a background to MAH, covering general principles, best practice in analysis, configuration and implementation, and a detailed review of the MAH functional architecture and components.  It includes Standardization, the Data Model, Accounting Engine, and the Sub-Ledger. Users are also introduced to the Reporting Data Repository, the User Interface, and other core MAH functional processes, including user security.
Hands-on workshops include analysis, data setup, accounting rule setup, error handling, processing transactions through MAH and reviewing the Accounting produced. The course ends with an exam.

Delegates, who successfully complete the MAH training for Functional Practitioners, are eligible to proceed to the MAH for Technical Practitioners course.

  • MAH for Technical Practitioners is aimed at system administrators, technical engineers, and business users involved in configuring MAH and those tasked with supporting and maintaining MAH.  This two-day technical course provides the fundamental skills required to configure MAH, offering guidance and hands-on workshops in selected areas of configuration.  Specifically, it focuses on MAH’s physical components within a client’s high level physical architecture and provides further details of MAH’s logical and technical design.  It describes the standards and conventions in the data model design, the use of meta-data to configure MAH, the processing of transaction data, and the audit trail created by MAH for reference data. Delegates learn how to configure MAH using standard templates, the use of lookups, and the configuration of the Sub-Ledger, the GUI and the Reporting Data Repository.

With significant emphasis on hands-on work, users are taken through a sequence of workshops that incrementally build a picture of the key technical points required to implement the MAH system. The course ends with an exam. Delegates who successfully complete both the Functional and Technical exams receive full MAH Technical Configuration accreditation.

Microgen Accounting Hub Accreditation

The MAH Technical and Functional courses include written and practical accreditation examinations. Delegates are accredited on successful completion, which confirms that trained practitioners are appropriately equipped to develop applications using Microgen Aptitude, to configure MAH, and allow the client to take advantage of the product maintenance and support provisions allowed for in the licence agreements.
